The Republic of Cote D’Ivoire is a democratic republic with the president elected for a five-year term as head of state to lead the executive branch of government. The democratic republic has a civil law system based on the French Civil Code, thanks to colonization. In terms of presidential terms, etc, there are no term limits. If a presidential candidate does not receive a majority of the votes, then a runoff election is held. The prime minister is appointed by the president of Cote d’Ivoire to be the head of government. 253 members comprise the unicameral National Assembly of Cote d’Ivoire, which heads the legislative branch of government. Unlike the president, members of the National Assembly are elected for a five year term.
